In this work, Hamsun introduces the reader to many things, a changing social morals, taking nature to support industrialization, and finding a means to live a life one finds good. All this is viewed though the steady unchanging Isak the central character that the growing community in the book go from thinking it foolish to build so far from town to latter having the honorary title of margrave form the same people. Without Isak the reader would have a harder time seeing how dramatic some of the changes that happen thought the novel really are; Isak is a base line that one can see the changing meaning of comfort and success impact. The Bay of Pigs is an inlet of the Gulf of Cazones located approximately 97 miles southeast of Havana (Capital of Cuba). The Bay of Pigs Invasion is one of the United States biggest invasion fails in history. The invasion was meant to overthrow communist Cuba and bring Fidel Castro’s power to an end. This was obviously a fail, because as we now know, Fidel had been in power until 2008, and now his brother Raul Castro is the president. The blame for this fail is on the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and of course, the president of the time Pr. John F Kennedy. To realize what happened during the Bay of Pigs, we must first look why the invasion happened and then we must see why the plan did not work. After World War II, a majority of Americans would say that communism was the world’s biggest threat. Darth Vader Great Movie Villain Essay Darth Vader is the ultimate villain, mostly because we can easily see ourselves in him. Instead of him being born evil, we watch Darth Vader slowly transform into the monster we all enjoy watching on the big screen. Darth Vader is one of those characters that is unforgettable. Everyone who has seen these movies at the theatre can remember the ominous march that begins to play when this tall, masked man enters the scene; He is unrecognizable. At over seven feet tall, he seems too powerful to be human. Everything he wears is black, including the cape that swishes behind him as he walks past those he terrorizes. His motorized breathing has become something of a joke for many people, but the idea of a mechanical man is actually quite scary. That breathing mixed with the actor’s deep bass voice made for the perfect on-screen villain. He is able to control people with his mind, he is able to pick up and throw things with a motion, and he is a master with the light-saber; He seems unstoppable. (maybe add something about how he is harsh or non loving) However, like many of us, his childhood is filled with love for his family. This was shown in detail, in the first three movies with his mother. Anakin has a personality a lot like t mine; he would do anything for his family. He is hardworking and willing to do whatever it takes to save the people he loves. Even though he had to leave his mother as a very young age to start training as a Jedi. He was willing to do that in order to help her and his people. Starting at a very young age, Anakin was always different. He would tinker with inventions, like C3PO. He was also very instinctive when it came to racing pods; it was as if he had a sixth sense. His sixth sense can be attributed to being born with an incredible amount of midi-chlorians (the way to communicate with the force). That was why Obi Wan was so excited to train him after testing his blood. He was destined to make an enormous impact, the problem was that he is weak because of his fear of losing his loved ones. Even though he always has the right intentions, he continuously misuses his powers due to his immaturity and pent-up anger. In fact, that is what he attempted to use to convince his son, Luke Skywalker, to join him on the Dark Side. Before they fought a light saber battle, Darth Vader told Luke that he could give him power to protect those he loves-even though Darth Vader himself had lost everyone he loved; Darth Vader was driven by a false hope. He hoped that commitment to the Emperor would provide order and safety. But under the shiny, black mask was a withered, sad man that was no longer able to live apart from the role that he was playing. The turning point in Anakin’s life comes early, as a teenager, when he discovers his mother after she had been taken and killed by the Tusken Raiders. This tragic event planted a seed in Anakin. In that moment he took the loyalty he has for his mother, and decided he would never allow anyone he cared about to be hurt again. His commitment was a real vulnerability. Anakin was very susceptible to Emperor Palpatine’s who had not yet revealed himself for the evil man he was- manipulation. He continually exploits Anakin’s desire to be important and to use his powers sooner-rather than-later. However, she gave birth before she died and both children were immediately taken and hidden in different places so that Anakin would not be able to interfere with them. Obi-Wan and Yoda decided to send Leah to Alderaan and Luke to Tatooine to be raised by his father’s step brother, Owen Lars. Luke was raised in Tatooine by his father’s stepbrother who was a moisture farmer and his wife Beru. Luke and Owen clashed almost the entire time before Owen died because of Luke’s adventurous tendencies and Owen disliking any adventure. While Luke shared similar traits with his father, he lived a different life given the circumstances. Like Anakin, Luke was an exceptional person and there was an enormous amount of potential that could be used for good if he was trained in the right way but Owen was very overprotective of him because of his fear of Luke’s potential and the outside world. He seemed to be just as reckless as his father. He ran away when he was ten years old when Owen wouldnt tell him who his real father was. Luke, just like Anakin his father, was very adventurous, confident, hardworking and loving towards his family and friends. He constantly finds himself in trouble more often than not because of how impatient and careless he is about his own personal safety. Like his father, he cares very much about his loved ones and when he set his mind to doing something he gets it done at all costs. During his raising, Luke took more after his mother than his father. As mentioned above, there were some similarities he shared with his father, but his upbringing was much more calm and collected. Even his green lightsaber (green being more of a calm color) shows more of a calm personality. Lukes childhood was a lot different than his father’s; His father grew up without his father present and his mother in slavery, but Luke grew up with a fairly normal life, (school, work, 2 good parents) and that obviously helped him contain his recklessness. He doesnt really have a very exciting upbringing in the story and he isn’t really introduced to the Empire during his childhood. He shows more of his mother’s traits in that he is more optimistic and trusting; he sees the good in people. When he finds out whom his father is he is willing to trust him as well. An example of where their similarities end comes toward the end of Episode VI, when Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker meet and engage in a light-saber duel. When the fight first started, Luke seemed angry and Emperor Palpatine was cheering him on to engage that emotion. However, Luke’s battle was within. When he allowed his anger to drive him during the battle he would gain an upper hand against his father, but then he would pull back knowing what he was doing wasnt right. I am not sure if he was trying to convince Luke or himself. Vader begins to treat his son Luke, the same way that Palpatine treated him,by manipulation. By taunting him, he attempts to play off his anger-causing Luke to be more like Vader. It appeared to work, as Luke gets more angry, he beats up darth vader while Palpatine cheers him on; luke stops short.. Luke tells Palpatine that he is a Jedi, this causes Palpatine to try to destroy luke.. Darth Vader looks on as Palpatine begins to injure his son Luke. It is impossible to read Vader’s expression since his face is covered, but there is a change that comes over him. It is as if the very thing that he joined Palpatine for in the first place was within reach for him. And so he picks up the withered, evil emperor and throws him down what seems like a bottomless shaft to his death. The emotional scene ends with Darth Vader wanting to connect eye to eye with his son by removing his helmet. He knew doing this would end his life, however reconnecting with his own flesh and blood son was more important to him than carrying on as the less-than-human Darth Vader. In the end, Darth Vader ends up being a tragic hero. The ending where Luke is almost killed by the corrupt Emperor Palpatine and he intervened and saved his son’s life symbolized purification with the realization of his mistakes. Darth Vader’s character kind of hits home for a lot of people because of how he portrays good and bad qualities. We can see ourselves in him and I think that one of the reasons these films are so successful, even today, is because of how Darth Vader redeems himself at the end. These days, the news is usually pretty depressing so when we see a villain change his ways it can be really refreshing for people.

The determinant factors in women’s enrollment decision in the post reform period were considered to be the relatively low probability of getting jobs, the unfavorable prospect for lifetime earnings of different female degree holders at higher education levels. Sethi et al. (2011) examined Higher Education and Economic Development within a Globalist Era in India. The paper focuses on the in’s and out’s of higher education in India in the context of India’s education system and why India is still a developing country. They said that education which is the basic for any economies development is in a bad shape in India. So, there must be some changes. These changes primarily include the change in the education system. They further suggested certain changes, these changes primarily include changes in India’s education system. Joshi (2012) studied Sustainable Development of the Higher Education Sector in India. Use of reservation policies as affirmative actions, to address the issues of inclusion has been in place in India for a long time. With inclusion of new social groups, the policies scope has increased, but the efficacy can be debated. The paper inspects if parental education is a suitable measure for positive action. The study used three rounds of National Sample Survey data. Empirical results suggest that parental education as a determinant of participation in higher education not only transcends the impact of caste, religious, and economic status, it is also very attractive for the ease of implementation. Agarwal (2006) examines funding needs in higher education in India. The paper relates the growth of higher education in India to the changing funding pattern. Further the paper suggests ways to ensure that higher education remains affordable and accessible to all. The author stresses the need for greater adaptability in the higher education system so that it continues to provide the needed skills and trained workforce to the economy as it integrates with the world economy. Policy measures required to promote, sustain, and enhance world-class research are also included. Considering the weaknesses in the prevailing regulatory and quality assurance environment, the paper provides a roadmap for reforms towards improved accountability of the system. Nair and Kumar (2005) talked about financing of higher education. The article also talks about the development of higher education in India. They discussed current educational system in the country and the concentration by the State on higher and technical education is looked at. The article further says that the financing of Higher Education in the country by the State, is a drain on its exchequer and that more methods have to be found out to move the financial obligations outside the State coffers. The experience of other countries is looked at briefly. For better money flow to this sector, it is very important, to look at providing adequate legislative protection to these self-financed universities, which attract funds from sponsors, financing agencies and corporates. The need for adaptability to the job market and the synchronization between job creation and higher education has been explained in detail. Various development models are hinted at with concentration on specific para meters. The article suggests that once the ground rules are clearly laid down, it may become possible to develop several models, which may be accepted by the financial agencies, for funding higher education in India. Patel (2009) examined Private higher education in India. He says Education is one of the dominant sectors of the Indian economy in terms of enrolment of children, employment of adults and investment of financial resources. While school education has a broad base, higher education suffers from a narrow base covering only about 7% of the relevant age group population. With the expansion of school education, the pressure on the higher education system to expand is expected to continue in India. In this context, two criteria of efficiency and mobilisation of resources are put forward in justification of privatization of higher education. When higher education is left to the market forces, it results in elitisation of a basic need; it puts higher education firmly out of reach of the millions of under-privileged of India who dream of going to the university one day.

Sexual intercourse within marriage is for this reason good and of great blessing both to the couple, to the family and to the church. However, outside of marriage it creates a conflict of body and soul. This conflict may not at first be evident but later it can result it real soul damage occurring between the two people involved. God tells us that we should control out bodies and our lusting, â€Å"It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in a passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God†1. By performing premarital sex we are abusing our bodies and our souls. The pain that premarital sex puts on us is very evident. Physically premarital sex can lead to many things, such as pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and other things that accompany premarital sex. Mentally premarital sex also hurts. Our bond with God is ruined, we lose contact with God and we are no longer part of the Church. Premarital sex goes against God’s law so our relationship with God is destroyed.

Poe has written this particular story to be told in a first person point of view. Since Montresor is the narrator this concludes the fact that he is telling the story from his point of view. From the beginning it is clear that Montresor is an unreliable narrator. Throughout the story it is quite noticeable that Montresor is not trustworthy as a narrator, and that he has a mental instability. The very first sentence it shows that this story is going to be told by Montresor (from a first person point of view). In the first sentence of the first paragraph Montresor claims Fortunato has bestowed â€Å"thousand injuries† against him. Even though Fortunato has supposedly insulted Montresor; Montresor never goes on to state what exactly Fortuanto has done to him. Next he states that he â€Å"vowed revenge† on Fortunato. Just from the one sentence Montresor shows he has a bias for how the story happened and played out. The next sentence is Montresor talking to an unknown person, basically telling then that he is going to diverge the story to them. â€Å"You, who so well know the nature of my soul†¦Ã¢â‚¬  is how Montresor addresses this person. How he has addressed the unknown person gives the idea that it might be a priest whom he is speaking to. If it is assumed that it is a priest, it could be interpreted as a sign of remorse. Although after reading the whole story it is quite clear that he does not regret what he has done to Fortunado. Throughout the story Montressor talks of what he has done to Fortunado with little to no remorse in his voice. I must not only punish, but punish with impunity† shows that Montressor knew completely well what he was about to do to his ‘friend’ and has not the slightest though of not doing it. Not only does Montresor plan to punish Fortunado but with impunity, which means without exemption. He shows the reader he has plans for his revenge but never tells the reader exactly what Fortunado has done to deserve to be punished with impunity. This alone shows that Montresor is trying to get the unknown person whom he is speaking with to sympathize with him. Montresor antagonizes Fortunado through the whole story with the allure of the Amontillado. There are at least three occasions that Montresor talks of finding Lushesi instead of Fortunado to try the wine to authenticate it. Montresor obviously knew that it irritated Fortunado when he spoke of having Luchesi come to authenticate the wine. This was almost like a slap in the face for Fortunado and made him want to come to the tombs even more. This move by Montressor shows how desperate he is to keep Fortunado interested in coming to the tombs. It shows how he has calculated his plan of revenge and is trying to execute his master plan. In the very last paragraph, second to last sentence Montresor states: â€Å"For the half of a century no mortal has disturbed them. † This sentence is referring to the tomb where he has entombed Fortunado to die, as well as the tomb of his other ancestors. Half of a century is at least fifty years, thus Montresor is stating that it has been over fifty years since the incident thus he could have easily forgotten what actually happened in the tomb. Most people can not even remember what happened a year ago one hundred percent accurately, much less fifty years later. In conclusion Montresor is a very unreliable narrator. Not only has it been over fifty years since the event, but Montresor also has a bias as to what happened with Fortunado. Montresor also clearly shows his mental instability with his lack of remorse with what he did to Fortunado. In this story of Edgar Allen Poe’s it is quite noticeable that Montresor is not a trustworthy narrator and that he has a mental instability.

Instead, one will now take into account how society views the respective choices at hand, and how well he can commit or follow through on a given outcome (Cooke and Sheeran 2004). The latter part is especially important – which is the reason for its addition to the theory in the first place. As mentioned by the aforementioned Bible verse, we may not always follow through on an action that we are inclined towards (Armitage and Conner 2001). Otherwise, for instance, individuals should have been ab le to instantly follow through on their intent to take a certain course of action. Someone who desired to quit smoking should definitely be able to do so immediately, but may be hampered by doubts on whether or not he will be able to quit – if this happens, he really will not be able to quit. Not only that, but one’s perceived and therefore actual behavioural control can also be swayed by the perceptions and opinions of those around him, which may sometimes manifest, among other things, as peer pressure (Ajzen 1985). Basic Statistics for Business and Economics Essay Over the last four weeks of being in the QNT/351 course our team has learned a lot about researching a hypothesis and understanding the mean. The hypothesis testing begins with the statement and the assumption that determines the population of the mean, (Lind, 2011, p.288.). There are five steps taken which include; state the hypothesis, select level of significance for it, identify the test statistics, formulate decision rule, and take a sample to arrive at a decision. On the contrary, however, McClave, 2011 states that there are seven steps including; null hypothesis, alternate hypothesis, test statistic, rejection region, assumptions, experiment and calculation of test statistic, and the conclusion. With setting a hypothesis and testing it is important to understand the mean and how to compare it amongst two or more groups. With testing the mean with multiple groups, the data collected is used to help determine the probability of a given amongst two distinct groups being analyzed which have the same or equal variances. This info it all based off the given hypothesis and should result in proving the null hypothesis stated. When looking at the mean the distance noted between the hypothesis and the mean placed is a value given as a result of the probability of occurrence. When analyzing and testing the means of the two groups we use the variance analysis. An example of this type would be testing the means of the two groups based off statistical models and valid conclusions. Along with completing the testing of the means of the groups, we must also calculate the variance according to the distribution of the differences in means. If the standard deviation is known we can calculate the z-score by using the difference of the variance and the mean. In calculating the correlation between the two variables we see that it is crucial to know the characteristics of the coefficient. According to Lind, 2011 pages 386-389 we can calculate the coefficient of correlation. The coefficient of correlation can help dete rmine the cause as well as effect amongst the two variables. Echo Personality Disorder is a specific and highly differentiated form of dependency, marked by behaviours of compliance and a need to 'mirror' significant others -parents, spouse, friends, employer. It has been found that those with EPD are highly attracted to relationships with individuals who show marked narcissistic tendencies. This mirroring behaviour was the reason for choosing the name Echo personality disorder, which is based on the Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo. In this story Echo, a forest nymph, falls completely in love with the egocentric youth Narcissus, and when he shows clear signs of rejecting her, she persists in her attatchement to him and will not be moved from her aim. She finally satisfies him with the masochistic task of echoing back to him all that he says. This too is the central feature of EPD behaviour in relationships, where the individual will mirror, echo, and compliment another at the expense of their own self-worth and dignity. Self descriptions by EPD sufferers focus strongly on percieved fears of abandonment, rejection, and loss, and these agonizing feelings are the driving force behind the above-mentioned interpersonal coping style (mirroring others). These individuals protect themselves from abandonment/rejection by being so agreeable to others, via their mirroring capacity, that chances of re-experiencing abandonment agony is brought to a low minimum. Unfortunately this approach amounts to a false existence with little or no true self expression, and eventually leads to poor psychological health. Characteristic experiential history for EPD often involves individuals being parented by caretakers who are themselves self-absorbed or narcissistic. In this environment the child learns that asserting ones true self will be met with a form of (often serial) rejection, to which they respond by substituting compliant behaviour in place of true selfhood. This 'compliant' behaviour can then be witnessed as a stable feature throughout the childs growing-up years, with other school children, and within the family. Depression, smoking, alcoholism, addictive behaviour all occur with very high frequency in this disorder. On a positive note, EPD people are excellent contributors to society, and to family, as they are found to be very perceptive of the needs of others.

Plato vs. Freud on Metaphysics Plato and Freud have made great strides in their respective fields of study. Both men have made a lasting impact on the way we now as humans view the world that we live in. Plato and Freud have similarities in views that they share but they also have some differences metaphysically. Plato believes that what is ultimately real are ideas, he believes that images are imperfect representations of the perfect concepts. While Freud believes what is physically real is by the evolution of man. Freud ultimately puts his faith in what he can see and analyze in front of him instead of what he cannot. Freud developed a â€Å"talking cure† which he would let the hysterical patient talk freely about the earliest occurrences which would then entirely eliminate the patient’s symptoms.†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦developed the idea that many neuroses (phobias, hysterical paralysis and pains, some forms of paranoia, and so forth) had their origins in deeply traumatic experiences, which had occurred in the patient’s past but which were now forgotten–hidden from consciousness. The treatment was to enable the patient to recall the experience to consciousness, to confront it in a deep way both intellectually and emotionally, and in thus discharging it, to remove the underlying psychological causes of the neurotic symptoms.† Plato answers the question of metaphysics by saying of ideas and ideal forms and Freud answers the metaphysical question through his belief in human nature. For Plato what is ultimately real are ideas and Ideal forms. Plato believes that the object was constantly changing so the ideal form is what was ultimately real. Everything in existence has a form of perfection for itself. All things in the physical world work in their existence to approach their perfection. An object, living or dead, always works in some way or another to meet its nature. For example, if you have a brand new table in your house the brand new table itself is not perfect. It is not perfect because the table itself is in a constant state of change. There is however a perfect ideal form of the table that does not change. â€Å"It is most of all from Plato that we get the theory of Forms, according to which the world we know through the senses is only an imitation of the pure, eternal, and unchanging world of the Forms.† While on the other hand Freud believes ultimately what is real is physical matter the whole universe is in evolution, which means he believes in no God or Gods. He concludes that all religious beliefs are illusions that have little proof. Freud also believed that the evolution that man had endured from the beginning to where he stood presently is what is ultimately real. â€Å"The psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, whose practice began in 1885, believed that each person’s subconscious mind was fraught with desires stemming from earlier phases of evolution. These desires, suppressed by modern society, accounted for much of neurotic behavior. Likewise, an individual’s personality was at least partially determined by heredity.† Freud believes that evolution plays a very pressing role in the lives of humans and that is what is real in the world. Further, what is ultimately real about humans is that man is the highest and most complex of all living creatures whose personali ty is composed of three interacting parts—the Id, the Ego and the Super-ego. The Id (or it) part of the psyche is the primitive instinctive component of personality. It consists of all of the inherited biological components of personality including the sex life. The Id is impulsive and unconscious and responds immediately to the instincts of human beings. The personality of a newborn child is all id and later it starts to develop ego and superego. The ego develops in order to mediate between the unrealistic id and the external real world. It is the decision-making component of personality. The ego only satisfies the id on the realistic terms sometimes compromises to avoid negative consequences of society. The superego incorporates the values and morals of society, which are learned from one’s parents and others. It develops around the age of 3 – 5 during the phallic stage of psychosexual development. Through all of these different stages in personally there are some check and balance stages that go along with stages. For example if the id wants something that is wrong and the ego lets the person have such thing, guilt can come into play. â€Å"The superego consists of two systems: The conscience and the ideal self. The conscience can punish the ego through causing feelings of guilt. For example, if the ego gives in to id demands, the superego may make the person feel bad though guilt.† Freud and Plato have made great strides in influencing the world after their work in their respective fields was completed. Freud has influenced many great psychologists after him and Plato has done the same in his respective field of philosophy. Freud influenced the minds such as: Anna Freud, Melanie Klein, Karen Horney, Alfred Alder, Erik Erikson, and Carl Jung. Freud’s influences in his field were great toward the constant search for a deeper analysis of how the mind works. â€Å"His work supported the belief that not all mental illnesses have physiological causes and he also offered evidence that cultural differences have an impact on psychology and behavior. His work and writings contributed to our understanding of personality, clinical psychology, human development and abnormal psychology.† Plato as well left a lasting impression on philosophers after him. He gave great insight to know the world around him works and functions. Plato’s ideas were used to jus tify some religions and certain academic subjects. Plato gave a lot to the teachers and scholars after him. â€Å"In his lifetime he was the most celebrated teacher of his day. After his death his ideas were taken up by countless other thinkers. Philo of Alexandria used Plato’s ideas to give a philosophical framework to Judaism. Early Christian writers eagerly embraced Plato’s thought as the best available instrument for explaining and defending the teachings of the Bible and church tradition. Of the Christian Platonists, St. Augustine of Hippo was the best known and most influential. Plato’s influence spread into Islam as well, through the writings of the philosophers Avicenna and Averroes.† Freud and Plato are not just polar opposites they have things in common as well. They both thought that trouble in the human soul/mind arises when the three parts don’t work in harmony with each other. Plato thought that the key to such harmonious relationship was to yield control to the rational soul; after all, he was the founder of the rationalist program in philosophy. Freud, on the other hand, concentrated on dealing with the id by means of psychoanalytical techniques. The difference of these men is clearly seen but they also have ideas that intertwine them. Plato thought the human soul, which we now call the mind, was made up of three parts: appetitive, rational, and the spiritual soul. Freud in turn in his career built a system around Plato’s comparable ideas. The system was: id similar to the appetitive soul, ego similar to the rational soul, and superego similar to the spiritual soul.
